Dear Friends in the Martial Arts,
It
with great pleasure and much enthusiasm that I invite you, your
students, friends and fellow classmates to our 42nd
BATTLE OF ATLANTA as our
NEW BEGINNING
continues.
NEW BEGINNING
to me continues to mean bringing the honor and dignity to the real
martial artists that they deserve.
As we discussed
for the first time last year, the simple phrase
martial arts has taken on
a whole new term during these past few years on
television by simply adding “mixed” to the phrase. In today’s
world, many consumers believe that wrestlers throwing punches and
kicks are the real martial artists. We continue to disagree
respectfully with that conclusion, and we seek, proactively, to
restore real martial arts to the formula.
NEW BEGINNING
means we are going to take the BEST OF THE BEST in each of our areas
and roll them into this BATTLE OF ATLANTA.
We will have
fighting in our WORLD CHAMP FINALS that will shine a bright light on
real martial arts. You will see no wrestling, but YOU WILL SEE the
best martial arts fighters in the world.
A NEW BEGINNING also reaches its
arms out to studio owners
who have been directed for nearly two decades by industry
associations to keep their students away from tournaments. You will
see interviews on our site under the WHY COMPETE? VIDEOS section, as
I speak to great fighters, coaches, parents and organizers about how
good competition has changed their lives and the lives of members of
their schools. The key is good competition.
The BATTLE OF
ATLANTA once again offers to
all studio owners and their students a vehicle where students of any
belt color who have never competed before can enter the ring against
people of their own belt color who also have never competed in an
open tournament before. Think about it…..you have a green or brown
belt in your school who would love to be in the ring, but he or she
is rightly reserved about getting in with people at a world class
event who have fought in 2, 3, 4 or 25 tournaments. So we are
presenting a division where they can meet other first timers! We
have added more than 150 divisions in order to do this!
Our continued
NEW BEGINNING also seeks to
shine a newer, brighter light on the great officials and Black Belts
who have supported their students and events for so many years. We
invite them and their students in to see the awards given at our
second annual OFFICIALS HALL OF FAME presentation. Please visit
STARS / LEGENDS / HALL OF FAME to see the Officials already inducted
and nominate your instructor(s). They will be honored at our
OFFICIALS ceremony on Friday and at the World Championship Finals on
Saturday night.
